2023 Rosé of Grenache

The 2023 Rosé of Grenache continues in its line of elegant rosés. The wine boasts notes of raspberry and peach with an added floral twist of jasmine. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with lovely weight complimented by bright acidity as flavors of juicy watermelon and nectarine wash over in an extended finish.

The 2023 growing season packed quite a few surprises with early frost and an abbreviated winter contributing to lower yields across Sonoma County. A Labor Day heat wave and September showers condensed the window of harvest by a few weeks. Overall, the quality of the fruit was extremely high across both estate vineyards, as lower yields resulted in concentrated flavors and even phenolic ripeness across blocks. The 2023 vintage promises many age-worthy wines. Bricoleur Vineyard’s Grenache comes from our second estate vineyard, Kick Ranch, in the Fountaingrove District AVA. The Grenache in this block is grown specifically for our Rosѐ. Kick Ranch is on the cooler side for this variety helping preserve wonderful acidity and freshness in the fruit, a truly ideal growing site for Grenache. Kick Ranch is a stunning hillside vineyard with rich volcanic soils seated on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Range.

The hand-picked Grenache grown for rosé was carefully night harvested when the fruit reached maturity, offering distinct varietal flavors and maintaining wonderful acidity. The grapes were delivered to Punchdown Cellars on the morning of August 31, 2023. They were whole cluster pressed until the perfect color and flavor was achieved. The Grenache juice settled for 2 days in a chilled stainless-steel tank and then went through a cool fermentation. Midway through fermentation the wine was transferred to 75-gallon stainless-steel drums where it finished fermentation and aged sur lie for 4 months.
