2023 Rockpile Zinfandel

The Zinfandel delivers with power and grace as aromas of blueberry compote, lightly roasted coffee, and chocolate promise a complex wine in the glass. Blackberry & boysenberry fruits dominate the palate and are complimented by a decadent texture and lasting finish.

The 2023 growing season was a much-welcomed change of pace as above average winter rainfall replenished aquifers and left soil profiles fully saturated to start the growing season. A cool slow progression into spring delayed bud break and prolonged flowering, generally slowing the start to the season and the timeline of grape development. Veraison was two to three weeks behind compared to recent vintages. Bricoleur Vineyard’s Rockpile Zinfandel comes from the acclaimed Rockpile appellation known for its high elevation, shallow red-rocky soils, and overall harsh growing conditions resulting in some of the most concentrated Zinfandel in Sonoma County. Bricoleur Vineyard’s Rockpile Zinfandel comes from two growing sites with distinctly different aspects, sun exposure and elevation. Both vineyards are perched at over 1,200 feet above Lake Sonoma and produce wonderfully rich expressions of Zinfandel.

The grapes were meticulously hand sorted and then destemmed prior to going into open-top
fermenting tanks where they cold soaked for three days. Pumpovers were performed daily as
fermentation got under way and tank temperatures were monitored closely to help with color, flavor, and phenolic extraction. After alcoholic fermentation was complete, the tanks were pressed and barreled down.
