2023 Kick Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2023 Kick Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon opens with enticing aromas of black cherry, cigar box, and licorice. On the palate, it's full-bodied and beautifully balanced, layering plum and mocha over bright red fruit, framed by fine-grained tannins and a long, polished finish.

The 2023 growing season was a much-welcomed change of pace as above average winter rainfall replenished aquifers and left soil profiles fully saturated to start the growing season. A cool, slow progression into spring delayed bud break and prolonged flowering, generally slowing the start to the season and the timeline of grape development. Veraison was two to three weeks behind compared to recent vintages.

The 2023 Kick Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of three distinct Cabernet Sauvignon Clones, 169, 338, and Disney and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc all from the estate. The component lots were fermented separately with extended maceration times averaging 10 days after alcoholic fermentation completed; roughly 25 days total on skins. The free run from each lot was aged in separate lots until the final blend was assembled the winter before bottling, allowing the components to integrate further during the final months of barrel aging.
