2023 Chardonnay

This Chardonnay presents enticing aromas of ripe pear and warm brioche, setting the stage for a richly textured experience. The palate reveals flavors of graham cracker and lemon zest, beautifully balanced by a bright acidity that adds freshness and vibrancy. The wine concludes with a long, smooth finish that is both satisfying and elegant.

The 2023 growing season was a much-welcomed change of pace as above average winter rainfall replenished aquifers and left soil profiles fully saturated to start the growing season. A cool slow progression into spring delayed bud break and prolonged flowering, generally slowing the start to the season and the timeline of grape development. Veraison was two to three weeks behind compared to the last few years. Grapes benefited from long hangtimes and developed mature phenolics at lower sugar levels. Great color, acidity, and varietal character are trademarks of the 2023 vintage in Sonoma County and will be a vintage to cherish at your table in 5, 10, or even 20 years.

The hand-picked Chardonnay was carefully night harvested when the fruit reached maturity,
offering distinct varietal flavors and wonderful acidity. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and the resulting juice settled for 24 hours in a chilled stainless-steel tank before being transferred to French Oak barrels where it was barrel fermented and aged sur lie 10 months. Regular lees stirring helped build texture and complexity in the wine. Our favorite French cooperages lend a wonderfully integrated presence of oak.
