2022 Alexander Valley Zinfandel

Perfumes of a classic Zinfandel emerge upon first impression of this Alexander Valley Zinfandel. Decadent aromas of blueberry compote and spiced chocolate are complimented by elegant, silky undertones. Flavors of black cherry carry over into the palate with hints of bramble and spice carrying through to the finish.

The season began with good rainfall in December and into January followed by an unusually warm February with no rain at all, a first in the recorded history of Sonoma County. These warm conditions accelerated bud break and the growing season by a few weeks. Early spring was spotted with heavy rain followed by near idyllic growing conditions through mid-summer. An August heat wave sped up ripening, giving the fruit nicely concentrated flavors for this vintage of Alexander Valley Zinfandel.

Bricoleur Vineyard’s 2022 Old Vine Alexander Valley Zinfandel was hand harvested at night and then meticulously sorted at the cellar before being destemmed and going into an open-top fermenting tank. The must cold soaked for three days and was then brought up to temperature to begin fermentation. Pumpovers were performed multiple times daily and tank temperatures were monitored closely to help with color, flavor, and phenolic extraction. After alcoholic fermentation was complete the tank was pressed and barreled down.
