2021 Petite Sirah

The 2021 Petite Sirah presents a deep, inky hue that hints at its intense nature. Aromas of blackberry jam and dark plum immediately captivate the senses, followed by subtle notes of vanilla and a touch of oak. On the palate, the wine unfolds with rich flavors of ripe black fruits, accented by hints of cocoa and a trace of black pepper. Robust tannins provide structure, contributing to a velvety and well-rounded mouthfeel. The finish is enduring, leaving a lingering impression of the wine’s powerful elegance.

After a particularly brief winter the 2021 growing season was a harmonious one and promises to be a great vintage for winemaking in Sonoma County. The season got off to an early start and a mild summer resulted in wonderful fruit across the county. Ideal temperatures right up to harvest coupled with a slightly below average crop size resulted in varieties ripening at similar times, making for a quick and fast-paced harvest of excellent quality. Great flavor development and acid preservation resulted in extremely balanced wines we can’t wait to share. Kick Ranch is in the Mayacamas Range along the eastern reaches of Santa Rosa and is Certified Sustainable. This beautiful hillside ranch consists of rich, red volcanic soils that offer the perfect balance of nutrients, water, and stress to our vines.

Bricoleur Vineyard’s 2021 Kick Ranch Petite Sirah was handpicked and arrived at Punchdown Cellars the morning of September 28th. The fruit was carefully sorted and destemmed before cold soaking for three days. The must was brought up to temperature and the fermenting juice was pumped over twice daily to bring out color, flavor and provide a healthy fermentation. After primary fermentation was complete the wine was barreled down where it barrel aged 21 months.
