2023 Kick Ranch GSM Blend

The 2023 Kick Ranch GSM demonstrates a freshness with strawberry, boysenberry, and licorice on the nose. The palate reveals subtle savory components of raspberry jam & fig with fine tannins that create a lasting finish.

The 2023 growing season was a much-welcomed change of pace as above average winter rainfall replenished aquifers and left soil profiles fully saturated to start the growing season. A cool slow progression into spring delayed bud break and prolonged flowering, generally slowing the start to the season and the timeline of grape development. Veraison was two to three weeks behind compared to the last few years. The Kick Ranch GSM is inspired by the sites ideal conditions to produce Rhone varieties and the vineyard’s track record for producing stand out Grenache and Syrah blends. The Grenache and Syrah are both from the original plantings at Kick Ranch dating back to 2008 and 2001 respectively. The Mourvèdre comes from a more recent planting and is farmed to very low yields to ensure the late ripening variety fully matures.

All three varieties were vinified separately in small open top fermenters. The Grenache and Syrah both received 15% whole cluster while the Mourvèdre was fully destemmed. After each component had aged independently during winter and spring the GSM was blended in the summer of 2024 aging as a cohesive blend until it was bottled in February of 2025.
